Welcome to The Cabbage Chronicle, Burnside High School’s brand new online magazine, published by Burnside students for the enjoyment of fellow students, members of the community, and the rest of the internet-connected, English-speaking world. If you’d like to find out a bit more about the purpose and future of this publication, read on.
It’s no wonder that, out of a school of 3000 students, with all sorts of passions and from all kinds of backgrounds, there are more than a few with a talent for journalism—writers, photographers, designers and editors. Many students already have blogs and Facebook accounts where they frequently post their opinions and celebrate their successes, so we asked ourselves: Why not put that all together into one publication for the entertainment of not just our own students, but of the wider community?
Many printing quotes, meetings and funding talks later, we were given the green light and got some enthusiastic students on board. We thought an online magazine would be the best approach, with the possibility of branching out into print later on, and collected the series of articles that you see here today. Whether you’re a rock musician, interested in politics, a little unsure about your future, considering vegetarianism, concerned about the environment and women’s rights, or looking to indulge in some weekend baking, we’re sure that you’ll find something here worth reading.
Going forward, we hope to provide a place where the opinions, thoughts and achievements of Burnside High students can be shared and expanded upon; what you see now is only the beginning. Later on we will be showcasing further student work, school news and events, and even more entertaining articles. If you want to keep up-to-date with these and other developments, follow us on Facebook or Twitter or subscribe by email.
Finally, we’d like to thank everyone who helped contribute, including the students, the support of the school, and Mrs. Burgess, without whom we would not have been able to launch the magazine you see today. Watch this space, as we continue our exciting journey through journalism with The Cabbage Chronicle.
